About Us

The S’More Pit

Homemade. Organic. Gooey.

The S’More Pit was conceived around a table of laughing friends, late in the evening, who all have one or more degrees in various types holistic medicine. The topic of the night was s’mores. We all had stories of s’mores (s’mories, if you will), hilarious, heart-warming, nostalgic, messy, wonderful stories. Our stories became an idea, six pages of notes (front and back!) were taken, and The S’More Pit was born.

S’Mores seemed to goo-ily squish perfectly in Sarah & Heather’s lives, and they jumped on the idea. Kitchens exploded in a flurry of sugar, honey, vanilla, maple syrup, flour. Focus groups were planned and executed, data gathered, market researched. As it turns out, everybody loves S’Mores.

The S’More Pit’s realization was fast and furious- we had our first pop-up only 6 weeks later in front of Beals & Co. Gallery at Santa Fe’s famous Christmas Eve Farolito Walk. It was a wild success- we sold over 325 S’Mores in less than four hours. We were basically throwing marshmallows at people, as a line stretched across Canyon Road.

Christmas Eve pushed us to go for it, and we’ve been popping up all over Santa Fe since! Our big dream is to have a gleaming S’More Truck, so we can bring delight to folks everywhere and anywhere.

Ingredients & Sourcing

Local. Organic. Sustainable.

As nature-loving, granola through-and-through California Natives, Sarah and Heather decided to focus on local, organic, sustainable ingredients, and to make S’Mores as healthy as possible. Our marshmallows are preservative and corn syrup free. Instead, we use delicious Simply Honey from Taos. Our graham crackers are gluten-free and paleo-friendly, featuring coconut, tapioca, and arrowroot flours. We are proud to feature The Chocolate Cartel as our amazing source for perfectly meltable, rich, delicious chocolate. Our coffee is sourced from Pour Vida, also local to Albuquerque.

As we grow, we intend to dig deep into the genius and ingenuity of New Mexico vendors.

Sarah Petersen, DOM

Queen of nuts and bolts, aligner of tiny details, & ambition. The Graham Master.
I am a Mother, a Doctor and a S’More Expert.
Food is one of my favorite aspects of being human and it feeds my soul to feed others.
I used to think my life was deserving of a soundtrack, now I cherish the moments of silence and stillness.
I drink Tequila straight.
I can grow my own food, butcher a goat and change my truck’s brakes.
I can hand-jam and mantle but if I’m being honest, I suck at Dynos.
These small hands of mine are unbelievably powerful.
I am honored and humbled by my patients and being a Doctor of Oriental Medicine is one of my many contributions to the “revolution.”
I am very good at taking things seriously and Louis C.K. is my favorite comedian.
I believe in existing just outside your comfort zone, rugged travel and cultural immersion,
physics, side kicks and the power of love.
The Tao blows my mind.
I have more degrees than most people.
Nature is my church,
and I arboreally identify as a Cottonwood.
The S’More Pit is my way of spreading love, creating community and being awesome at life.
I encourage you to find your way of doing the same.

Queen of promotion, media, web management, & outreach. Marshmallow Magician.

After many years in the “very serious” holistic health field, a lightning bolt of realization hit my brain. My favorite jobs were both making pizza. At the tiny, exquisite Pizzetta 211 in the misty Richmond District of San Francisco, and divine Flat Rock Village Bakery in Western North Carolina, I ended each day exhausted, covered in ash, and satisfied. On opposite coasts, these sweet places have a lot in common- local, organic ingredients, old-fashioned recipes, and a silly crew tossing dough with love.

A S’More, like pizza, (or the gorgeous goat cheese tart of Pizzetta or exquisite chocolate croissant of The Flat Rock Bakery) doesn’t even resemble health food. But, it is most definitely heart food, a fancy term I just made up! In my studies of Ayurvedic medicine, I’ve learned the heart needs nourishment, just as the body does. So, S’Mores.

I also really like singing songs, playing my mandolin, shakin’ it hard in Haitian dance, climbing, hiking, and going places.
